Catherine's Annual Festive Carol Concert Honours Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including award-winning actors.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to public life following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
